Euro-Protect 2009
Hostile Vehicle Mitigation Course
The Euro-protect 2007 conference was a highly successful joint venture between the National Counter Terrorist Security office (NaCTSO) and the Avon and Somerset Constabulary.
The event sought to address the key challenge of how we protect Europe from the threat of terrorism, through partnership with the commercial and private sector. There were over 140 delegates and the event was evaluated by 70% of the participants as 'exceptional'.
There was a clearly expressed appetite for future events and this came to fruition between the 16th and 19th of March, when NaCTSO and Avon and Somerset Constabulary ran a Hostile Vehicle Mitigation course for counter terrorism professionals from 17 member states of the European Community.

The event was facilitated and financially supported from the Prevention of and Fight Against Crime Programme of the European Commission - Directorate-General Justice, Freedom and Security.
There were two days of teaching and exercises at the Home Office Scientific Development Branch, followed by a practical demonstrations day at the Transport Research Laboratory.
Initial evaluation indicates that the course was considered to be a success by attendees who found it engaging and highly informative. Further events are being planned for October 2009 and April 2010. Concrete dates will be publicised in the near future.
